We're counting down the days until Des Moines hosts the preliminary rounds of the 2016 NCAA tournament. The city will be buzzing about plenty of parties and other social events as the date gets closer, but none of those will be able to replace the good old local favorites that we love.
We started up our very own March bracket-busting theme and identified the most braggable parts of our city with your votes.
There was a lot of competition for the top spot. We separated each place into four categories, which included top bars, fun hangouts, best eats and cool culture. Our final four places were el Bait Shop and High Life Lounge, Fong's, Raygun and Confluence. The voting was tight, but Fong's won overall.
Maybe it's the Crab rangoon pizza, tiki drinks or the overall fusion of flavors that the restaurant serves its customers a.k.a. Fongolians that gave them the edge.
Fongolians in Ankeny won't have to leave the 'burbs to get their pizza fix.
