Where do you find style

inspiration?

Everywhere but the catalogs. I think hip dads are a good starting point. But I try to vary my resources — fashion is inherently multifaceted and I seek to combine pieces I enjoy from different trends and styles.

What's the one thing you can't leave the house without?

Pants that fit well. I can't stand baggy fabric or denim around my ankles. I've grown fond of cuffing my pants for a tighter yet practical feel.

3. Who's your style icon?

Anybody who challenges their surroundings. To a great extent, style is an extension of personality, so I respect those with personalities comfortable and confident enough to go against the grain. And Kanye.

4. What trend do you hate most at the moment?

I'm floored people still wear Bluetooth headsets. And Topsiders. And although I still have a couple pairs, joggers can go away whenever.

5. What's your favorite store?

Topman or Urban.

6. On a scale of 1-10

how fashionable would you rate DSM? Why?

5.15; for every person with style there's five who insist a blazer, boot cut jeans and loafers is acceptable.

7. Favorite restaurant in Des Moines?

El Monterrey.

8. What's your go-to date spot in Des Moines?

My girlfriend and I frequent The Lift — good people, good drinks and good art. And then darts (at which I never win) over at Carl's Place.

9. What's one store Des Moines needs?

Odin.
