Jazz in July
Friday-Saturday: Jazz in July closes out its 2015 season this week. Friday's show is the Scott Davis Quartet at Beaverdale Park at 6:30 p.m., and the finale concert starts at 5 p.m. Saturday at West Glen Town Center, with music by the Betsy Hickok Group, The Tighten Up and others. Hinterland Music Festival
Friday-Saturday: The first annual Hinterland Music Festival opens its gates at 4:30 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday at Water Works Park, 2201 George Flagg Parkway. Friday is headlined by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros with Future Islands, TV on the Radio and The Envy Corps performing. Saturday's bill is topped by Old Crow Medicine Show, with Brandi Carlile, Yonder Mountain String Band and others playing. $45 per day in advance or $50 at the gate, $75 in advance for both days, $90 at the gate. Hinterland After Parties
Friday-Saturday: After the music stops at Water Works Park, things move to Wooly's, 504 E. Locust St., for Hinterland after parties. On Friday TV on the Radio plays a DJ set starting at 11 p.m. Admission is $5 and a festival wristband is required. On Saturday Dead Larry plays at 11 p.m., $5 or free with a Hinterland wristband. Comedy Charity Tampon Show
Friday: The Puterbaugh Sisterz comedy group from Chicago headlines The Comedy Charity Tampon Show, a benefit for Central Iowa Shelter & Services, at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Des Moines Social Club, 900 Mulberry St. Ashley Huck, Kate Bennett, Rachel Weeks, Clare Roth and Madeleine Russell will also perform. Iowa Trivia [and freedom] Summit
Friday: The Des Moines Register hosts an evening of trivia about the Iowa caucuses starting at 6 p.m. at West End Architectural Salvage, 22 Ninth St. Register political columnist Kathie Obradovich, J.
