You go on walks, trips to the dog park and trips to the pet store. You need to break up the dog monotony. Here are four pet-friendly bars where you can bring Fido for something more exciting than fetch. You can find a more extensive user-generated list at arl-iowa.org.
Lefty's Live Music
2307 University Ave.
Want to catch a concert with your dog? Lefty's is the place to do it. The owners regularly have their dogs, Lefty and Tater, in attendance with ear protection. But if it's a metal or hard rock show, leave your dog and their sensitive ears at home.
The Copper Cup
207 Fourth St.
This Court District bar was recently home to the Dog Jog & Fido Fest last spring, and smaller dogs are welcome on a regular basis. Owner Eric Hartung did suggest you consider the timing; 10:30 p.m. on a Friday isn't prime doggy time.
Confluence Brewing Co.
1235 Thomas Beck Road
The brewery is an easy trail walk from Gray's Lake and has a great, dog-friendly patio. Confluence even brews the occasional dog-themed beer, Barley & Me Puppy Pale Ale.
Mickey's Irish Pub
206 Third St.
Half the people in Des Moines bring their dogs to the farmers' market. While you've got your pup, why not stop in to Mickey's patio between visits to healthier veggie stands?
