Kristin Chenoweth will perform with the Des Moines Symphony on Feb. 25 at the Civic Center.
"An Intimate Evening with Kristin Chenoweth" will include a large array of musical styles from Chenoweth’s past, as well as her new album, "The Art of Elegance."
“I like to include some songs that people wouldn’t normally expect,” Chenoweth said. “I love Dolly Parton, Don Henley ... each concert set is different and I enjoy switching it up for the audience.”
Chenoweth’s wide repertoire of experience and awards includes playing Glinda the Good Witch in "Wicked," winning an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in "Pushing Daisies," and nominations for two Emmy Awards and a People’s Choice Award for her role in the television show, "Glee." She is also a non-fiction bestseller.
Coming to Des Moines to perform in an intimate setting with the Des Moines Symphony is one of many areas of performance Chenoweth enjoys.
“Every orchestra is different, and I love discovering new colors, new tones, new ways of interpretation with each group of finely talented musicians,” Chenoweth said. “Just like a recipe, each symphony orchestra has its own unique ingredients, and I can’t wait to stand on stage with them and make our own magic.”
Last year, Chenoweth had a big year both onstage and off. She debuted a few of her tracks from "The Art of Elegance," and returned to the stage in her limited engagement, "My Love Letter to Broadway."
“'My Love Letter to Broadway' was definitely a bucket-list item for me,” Chenoweth said. “Being back on stage on Broadway reconnected me with my first true love.”
Chenoweth said her new album is the one she’s been dreaming of making, and now that it’s complete she’s looking forward to spending time with her puppy, Thunder.
“(It’s) the music I cut my teeth on, and rediscovering these classic American standards, falling in love with the music and lyrics all over again, was definitely my favorite part of the experience,” Chenoweth said.
Chenoweth had this to say about her upcoming visit to Des Moines:
“Anyone want to tweet me with some local food or shopping suggestions? (her Twitter handle is @KChenoweth) Also, any great parks that I can take Thunder for a run in? See y’all soon!”
