Arts reporters Courtney Crowder and Matthew Leimkuehler will reveal which shows will be a part of the 2017-18 Willis Broadway Series as well as all the dance performances, comedy acts and concerts Des Moines Performing Arts plans to stage at the Civic Center and the Temple Theater during their upcoming season.
Crowder and Leimkuehler will offer insight and background on the selected musicals and conduct live interviews with some of the people who helped secure the season’s most exciting events.
Des Moines Performing Arts, a nonprofit organization, scored big last spring with the announcement “Hamilton” would stop in Des Moines on its first national tour. Punching above its weight, Des Moines was selected along with cities like Houston, Portland and San Francisco for that inaugural honor.
“Hamilton,” as the musical’s title may suggest, tells the story of Alexander Hamilton and the Founding Fathers, focusing on life before and after the Revolutionary War. Using rap and hip-hop to chronicle Hamilton’s rise and fall, this is most definitely not your average musical.
The national tour of the Broadway musical "Hamilton" will play at the Des Moines Civic Center as part of the Willis Broadway Series during the 2017-2018 season.
Even though excitement for next season has reached a fever pitch, the 2016-17 Willis Broadway series continues with “Fun Home,” “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” and “An American in Paris” all set to debut over the next few months. Find more information about dates and tickets at desmoinesperformingarts.org.
And make sure to watch Monday, my fellow thespians. You don’t want to throw away your shot to be among the first to know about the new season!
