It's hard to believe that the 2017 Iowa State Fair was only four months ago. But we still remember the delicious and decadent foods that were served during those 11 days of splurge-worthy fun.

One dish in particular — the winner of the People's Choice Best New Food Contest for 2017 — was the Pork Almighty, a crazy concoction served in its own eye-catching contraption.

Steer N Stein sold at least 10,000 Pork Almightys this year. That's 18,300,000 calories and 1,190,000 grams — or 2,618 pounds — of fat. Of that, 1,012 pounds is saturated fat.

Stein said he was having trouble with his registers, but said he remembers it was more than 10,000.

"By the end of the fair, we had to double the staff," said Stan Kranovich, who owns Steer N Stein with his wife, Debbie. Stan will feature the Pork Almighty on the menu again this year, but has no plans to enter a new food in the 2018 competition.

For the Pork-Almighty, it's all about the presentation.

The base is a 32-ounce soft drink with a bowl on top that acts as a lid for the drink. And that bowl is filled with crunchy twisty fries, pulled pork, queso cheese sauce, Cookies barbecue sauce, more queso, diced onions, green peppers and then more shredded cheese is sprinkled on top.

It weighs in at just over four pounds ($12) and has more than 1,800 calories.

A straw comes up through the middle of the bowl, so you can sip and dine at the same time while strolling around the fairgrounds.

Three years ago, Steer N Stein wowed fairgoers with its patented 27-degree beer to help them cool off in the August heat. Debbie was the mastermind behind the Pork Almighty's recipe.

"It screams 'fair' and it screams 'fun,'" Stan Kranovich said of the Pork Almighty. He has attended the Iowa State Fair every year since he was 12 (that's 47 years).

The 2018 Iowa State Fair is only eight months away, and we are already excited to discover what the new foods will be revealed and taste our way around the grounds.
