On Monday the Grammy-winning act Mumford & Sons announced details on its third album, "Wilder Mind," due out May 4, as well as five dates for its Gentleman of the Road Stopovers. It includes a June 19-20 stop in Waverly, near Cedar Falls/Waterloo.
In addition to Mumford & Sons, the show will event will feature The Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket, Dawes, Jenny Lewis, The Maccabees, The Very Best, Rubblebucket, Jeff The Brotherhood, Blake Mills and more bands to be announced.
Mumford & Sons will headline the June 20 date of the stopover, My Morning Jacket headlines on June 19. Mumford & Sons released its first album, "Sigh No More," in 2009, getting two Grammy nominations. The band's 2012 album, "Babel," won the Grammy for "Album of the Year. In 2013 Mumford & Sons announced it was going on hiatus, eventually returning to the studio in the summer of 2014 to record "Wilder Mind."
Past Gentleman of the Road shows have drawn 25,000-35,000 fans, a big influx for a town that has less than 10,000 people. The stopovers focus on smaller towns, including Seaside Heights, NJ (less than 3,000), Walla Walla, WA (31,000) and Salida, Colo (5,200), along with an overseas date in Aviemore, Scotland (2,400).
In the press release event for the Gentleman of the Road Stopovers, they were described as focusing on towns that are not normally frequented by large touring bands, and that there will be a series of smaller events involving local businesses and venues.
More stopover dates are expected to be announced, and the band will also be headlining the June 11-14 Bonnaroo Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn.
Ticket prices are still TBA, but they'll go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through gentlemenoftheroad.com.
