GoodcaT got its start when frontman Nels Dovre was playing cell with the Des Moines band Seedlings. He was writing his own material, but didn’t think it would fit. So he started looking to put together another band.
“Everyone in Seedlings was involved in other projects, so I didn’t feel bad about getting another group together,” Dovre said.
Three years ago at 80/35, Dovre ran into bassist Mark Owens. They started jamming together and slowly worked more people “interested in making groovy music” into the mix.
On Friday the band plays a release show for its EP “Keep Sinking In.” Dovre said he wrote the songs to help himself understand emotions he was experience durin gthe creative process.
Within the last year, GoodcaT has toured to Denver and back, performed at 80/35 and Dovre got to jam with Trampled by Turtles. During April GoodcaT will be touring for three weekends, hitting cities outside Des Moines.
“A year from now, we’d love to be a force in the Midwest, regularly playing St. Louis, Chicago, Madison, Minneapolis, Kansas City and as many cities as we can in Iowa.”
