The Workshy performs at 8 p.m. Thursday at Jasper Winery, 2400 George Flagg Parkway, 9 p.m. Friday at DG’s Tap House, 125 Main St., Ames and 8 p.m. Saturday at Gas Lamp, 1501 Grand Ave.

After starting The Workshy in Ames, band members Brant Williams (guitar, vocals), Danny Kratzer (guitar, vocals) and Jiho Han (bass, vocals) relocated to Denver to make music together. The members spent time going to open jams around the city until they rounded up Ben Rafferty (keys, vocals), Joshua Hoffman (drums) and Armando Lopez (saxophone).

“We’ve been trying to play as much as possible and get our name out there after getting this solid lineup,” Williams said.

New addition Rafferty has been writing a lot of The Workshy’s newer songs, so the band will have a somewhat different sound from the group’s days in Ames.

“The new people in the band help us see things from a different perspective and get us writing to the group, rather than one person bringing in a tune.”

Williams said The Workshy is focusing on booking more dates for the fall and hopes to play some theater shows and opening slots for bigger bands this year.
