The syllabus for the Des Moines Music Coalition’s Music University event will feature a heavy course of partying, thanks to keynote speaker Andrew W.K.
The event will be held Oct. 17 at the State Historical Building with showcase concerts at Vaudeville Mews at The Basement at the Des Moines Social Club.
Andrew W.K. released his first album, “I Get Wet,” in 2001, featuring the songs “Party Hard,” “Party til You Puke” and “She is Beautiful.” He’s also a motivational speaker (discussing the philosophy of partying), writes an advice columnist for The Village Voice and is a nightclub and music venue owner.
In addition to the keynote address, Andrew W.K. will also perform at Vaudeville Mews.
Also announced was a half-day workshop hosted by Greg Kot and Jim DeRogatis of “Sound Opinions” entitled “Everything You Need to Know ABout the Music Industry in 2015. Other featured speakers include Erik Selz (Windish Agency), Rob Sevier (Numero Group), Ryan Ohm and Jackson James (Weird Life Films), Jesse Elliott (These United States) and Aaron Shaddy (Maha Music Festival).
Andrew. W.K., and Lipstick Homicide will perform from 6:30-9 p.m. at Vaudeville Mews, Green Death, Jack Lion and MarKaus will perform at The Basement starting at 9:30 p.m.
A conference pass is $35 in advance, $40 at the door, while a pass for the conference and showcases is $50 in advance, $60 day of.
