MarKaus and the Isiserettes are the latest Iowa artists to be featured in the Juice Side Sessions series. Juice Side Sessions is a monthly video series capturing Iowa musicians and artists performing original music in the heart of Iowa. Catch up with the entire series at dmjuice.com/sidesessions.

The line “think about it” is repeated 15 times as Des Moines rapper MarKaus Ashworth performs alongside staple Iowa drill and drum corp the Isiserettes.

Founder of local hip-hop festival FreshFest and music company MediaFresh, MarKaus glides through a gym in downtown Des Moines while the drum corp pounds through the original number, composed by Cory Williams and directed by Pam Williams. He explained the message of the track is to spread the truth, without being forceful.

“As a community, we have the tools to achieve anything … as long as we are willing to look truth in the face and embrace it,” MarKaus said.

MarKaus and the Isiserettes collaborated on the track together, with lyrics coming from the former and original music from the latter. The video is part of the Juice Side Sessions series, aiming to highlight Iowa artistic talent performing in Des Moines and across the state. See the series in full at dmjuice.com/sidesessions.

A new record is in the works for MarKaus, he said, which he hopes to release later this year. The rapper and entrepreneur also said he plans to continue his hip-hop showcase series, House Party, in the coming months, and plans to bring the second-annual FreshFest to Des Moines this year. MarKaus dropped his latest single, “Big Face,” earlier this month via Station 1 Records. The Isiserettes are also planning to keep busy through March; the group is set to appear March 25 at Wooly's alongside Brazilian 2wins.
