Get your gin and juice ready, Iowa. West coast rap icon Snoop Dogg is bringing his “Wellness Retreat” tour to Cedar Rapids this spring.
The tour will be stopping at the U.S. Cellular Center on April 25, the venue announced Wednesday via Facebook. Tickets cost $49.50-$59.50 and go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. via uscellularcenter.com. Support on the bill comes from the Flatbush Zombies trio and San Francisco rapper Berner. The show is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m.
A multi-generational rap staple, Snoop Dogg found mainstream success in the 1990s and 2000s for his work on hits such as “Gin and Juice,” “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Beautiful.” One of the most notable rappers in pop culture, Snoop Dogg’s also made cameo appearances in television shows such as “The Simpsons” and “Trailer Park Boys” as well as films such as “Pitch Perfect 2” and “Old School.”
Snoop Dogg (who briefly changed his name to Snoop Lion after a trip to Jamaica in 2012) released his 14th studio album, “Coolaid,” last year.
“Snoop Dogg first sprung onto the national scene through Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic,’” a news release said. “His drawled laconic rhyming and violent lyrics created a cannabis-gangsta persona.”
Snoop Dogg made headlines Wednesday when President Donald Trump tweeted at the rapper in reaction to a music video that portrayed the 45th president dressed as a clown. In the video, for the song “"Lavender (Nightfall Remix),” Snoop Dogg pulls a gun on the clown.
“"Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!,” Trump tweeted.
Other shows set to take place at the U.S. Cellular Center include a July tour stop from comedian Jim Gaffigan and a performance in May from classic rock act Boston. More information can be found at uscelluarcenter.com.
