Pop music’s favorite firework has announced her return to Iowa’s capital city this December.
Coming as part of a major tour and album announcement, Katy Perry is set to roar into Des Moines Dec. 2 for a one night only performance at Wells Fargo Arena. Tickets to the show go on sale May 22 at 10 a.m. via Hy-VeeTix.com, the Wells Fargo Arena box office or participating Des Moines and Ames Hy-Vee locations.
One of the world’s most recognized pop stars, Perry heads to Des Moines as part of the "Witness" tour, which runs from September through February 2018. The tour name comes from the 2017 album, set to be released June 9, of the same name. Each ticket purchased to the "Witness" comes come with a pre-order for the album, a news release said.
Two singles from "Witness" have already dropped — the nostalgia-driven “Chained To The Rhythm” and dance-friendly Migos collaboration “Bon Appetit.” The former, released in February, climbed as high as No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. Perry, a 13-time Grammy Award nominee, has earned eight No. 1 Billboard singles and landed 12 songs in the top five.
The California girl captured the world’s attention with late 2000s hits like “I Kissed A Girl” and “Hot n Cold,” Perry last released a full-length studio album in 2013, the Platinum-selling “Prism.” This would be Perry’s first appearance at Wells Fargo Arena, according to Register archives. Des Moines was one of many cities across the globe picked earlier this year to host an advanced listening station for “Chained to the Rhythm,” which appeared in the form of a mobile disco ball at Pappajohn Sculpture Park.
Perry last appeared in the Hawkeye state on Oct. 24, 2015 at a rally for then presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. Donning a patriotic dress, the pop star performed a handful of songs, including “Roar” and “Firework,” outside of Hy-Vee Hall in downtown Des Moines. She would later attended the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in support of Clinton.
