They call themselves the Little Red Food Truck, but they deliver big, bold flavors. They offer three kinds of gourmet tacos, a tenderloin sandwich and cherry turnovers.
I was out and about near Ritual Cafe when I spotted the truck over the lunch hour.
I ordered Shon's Fabulous Fish Taco ($7). What makes this taco gourmet? The thick, fried flour shell. It's seriously bomb. Tasty Taco lovers should give this food truck a try.
The Alaskan Walleye was fried to golden perfection. Not too dry, not too salty and not too fishy. It was topped with cheese, raw cabbage, their creamy chipotle sauce and cilantro.
If there's one thing I would change about this taco, it would be to add one more piece of that glorious fried fish. I want it. And I want a lot more of it.
If you're like me, you want to end on a sweet note. Lucky for me, this food truck offered cherry turnovers ($4). They use the same taco shell for this dessert.
I don't know about you, but I dig things that can be used in more than one way. This shell is on my list of fabulous things. Back to turnovers. If you're looking for something to cool you down this summer, you may want to skip this warm treat. This deep fried pastry oozes with candy-like cherry filling and is draped and drizzled in a sugary glaze. It even has cherry chunks. Surprisingly, it's not as sweet as you'd think, but still enough sweetness to satisfy that sugar crave.
Note: This meal was pretty messy. Pack a plastic knife if you want to keep your hands clean. And if you're looking for something that's on the heavy side, this is the truck to hit up.
Catch them Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m near the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. More details on facebook.com/littleredtruck.
