Des Moines community members delivered acts of kindness across the city Wednesday in reaction to two police officers who were fatally shot in the 1 a.m. hour Wednesday. One instance includes an exchange between an Iowa woman and an officer, who embrace in an emotional, tearful hug. A Des Moines Register editorial published Wednesday afternoon, calling the shooting "an attack on the community as well as the officers." An excerpt from the piece: "Today, we’re reminded of just how important the police are to all of us." Read it in full here.
Doughnuts with a purpose.
Hurts Donut Co. in Coralville created and sold "Thin Blue Line” donuts Wednesday, with plans to donate the pastry proceeds collected Wednesday and Thursday. The doughnut chain has plans to open a West Des Moines location soon.
