A random act of Iowa kindness strikes in downtown Des Moines again. The Downtown Des Moines Community Alliance posted on Facebook about a box full of gloves and hand warmers on the sidewalk at Seventh and Locust Street. BEER ME, PLEASE

In anticipation of the forthcoming Feb. 1 Iowa caucuses, Court Avenue Brewing Company's launched a "Caucus Ale" beer and long-sleeved T-shirt, available at the restaurant and brewery in downtown. Pro tip: Visit the taproom during happy hour — Monday through Friday, 4-6 p.m. — for specials on drinks and food.

NEW BAR IN BEAVERDALE

Remember Tally's in Beaverdale? That building's being taken over by a new lounge and restaurant called Reed's Hollow. The restaurant plans to serve brunch, possibly lunch and dinner at the new spot, with local beer options on tap. Look for its doors to open in early February.
