Take a hard pass on Netflix this Valentine's Day weekend and Altoona + Chill at the new Cinemark movie theater. The theater offers "at-home" comfort with electric lounge chairs, wall-to-wall screens, surround sound, a self-service snack bar and more. There's even a "cantina" section that serves local beer. Grab your date quick, the theater opens today.
Bill Nye, the man known to most as "The Science Guy" is set to speak on the Drake University campus this spring. Part of the Martin Bucksbaum Distinguished Lecture Series, fans of the science guy will be able to catch him at the Knapp Center on April 14. The best part? It's FREE (yeah, no money needed) and open to the public.
It's an ironic Simpsons reference ... get it? Anyway, the first Natural Grocers in Iowa opened this week in Clive. The 14,000 square-foot location offers a fresh produce section, natural cleaning products, grab-and-go options and more. A mix of natural brands and locally grown products are featured in the store.
A new concert series put on by the Des Moines Social Club, titled "DMSC Presents," wants to bring culturally diverse artists to downtown. What's that mean? Scheduled for this spring is a throat-singing group from the Republic of Tuva, a blues-infused jazz band from the Twin Cities, an offering of Mongolian punk rock, a Minnesota-based soul singer and more. The series kicks off Feb. 14 with The Hot Club of Cowtown.
