Happy Friday eve! We've (almost) made it through another week. My soul is ready to sit on somebody's patio and do absolutely nothing. You, too? I'm still collecting embarrassing, funny and heartwarming text messages between people and their mothers. Send them to email@example.com. And feel free to keep telling me what to do. Now, here's what you've missed this week ...
Are you going to one of the Garth Brooks concerts coming up? If so, this will make your life a little easier. It's "20 things that you should know about the upcoming Garth shows." Here are a few facts that you should know:
- Buzzard Billy’s on Third Street will be having a pre-Garth party with drink specials before the weekend shows.
- Need to park? Free parking will be available at the Iowa State Capitol Complex for both the Friday and Saturday night shows.
- Shuttle buses will run from the Capitol Complex parking to Wells Fargo Arena before and after each show. Those who use the service will get picked up at the corner of East 12th Street and Grand Avenue.
If you have attended the 80/35 music festival in Des Moines in the last two years, then you probably remember seeing Wanda Findley and John Kirsch, the patriotic dancing duo who showed up to the festival with their smiling faces and jazzy dance moves. On April 23, Findley was killed in a car accident. Now her partner John needs your help.
Listen, I'm not telling you what to do, but you might need to make a move over to Gilroy's Kitchen + Pub + Patio, 1238 Eighth St., West Des Moines, this week. The rush hour happy hour is 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays in the bar and on the patio. It includes half-priced appetizers and $1 off Moscow mules, drafts, bottles and house wines. The regular hours are Sundays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays until midnight.
