Happy Cinco de Mayo! What are you doing to celebrate the Mexican holiday? If you haven't made any plans to celebrate, go fix that immediately. Here are seven essential Mexican restaurants that we think you'll like. If you're not down to party during the week, slide through Valley Junction on Saturday for a Cinco de Mayo festival. It will be from noon to 10 p.m. and it's located on the 200 and 300 Blocks of 5th Street in the historic Valley Junction, West Des Moines. There will be food and live music. What's not to like? Now for what you came here for...

FINALLY, THE GREAT RETURN

Nine city blocks. 21 bakers. Eight local wine producers. You'll find all of that and more at this year's Downtown Farmers' Market, which kicks off this Saturday. I'm a little bummed that I won't be there to partake in the Farm Boys' burritos and and bubble tea, but I'll be there in spirit.

FONG'S FESTIVAL

Crab rangoon pizza for us all! The Fong's Pizza in Ankeny, 450 Southwest Vintage Parkway, is having a festival. There will be craft beer, pizza (duh!) and music. Fong's is celebrating its one-year anniversary, so the Ankeny restaurant will be throwing the "Fong's Fest" on June 11 from 3 to 11 p.m. with a block party planned in front of the restaurant in The District at Prairie Trail.

Ankeny, ftw: Whiskey River will bring rooftop bar, event space to Ankeny

SUMMER, SUMMER, SUMMER TIME

Before you make any plans to go vacation across the country or across the globe, take some time to see what's happening in your own backyard. Take a road trip through Iowa and visit these places. I've already got parasailing, kayaking and flyboarding in Okoboji on my list of things to do.
