Happy Tuesday! It's Ameena and I'm back at it again with another newsletter. How many of you are planning on going to the Wizard World Comic Con? I mean, you can't see the Wicked Witch of the West, zombies and WWE superstars in one place, so you might as well. Three-day weekend admissions are $75 in advance, $85 on-site. Learn more about it here. If that's not your jam, I'm sure you can find something on this list of 100 things to do in Iowa this summer. Now let's talk about what happening around the city...
Maybe you've heard about a little thing called the Downtown Farmers' Market? Well, it's finally back. The food options might be a little overwhelming with there being 300-plus vendors and all. You can try Iowa Orchard's fruit pizza for $3.75 a slice, Thill’s Produce's apple bread for $5 or 13 other treats from the market.
Dutch letters: It's Iowa's quintessential treat
Lavish, million-dollar homes are cool and all, but sometimes you may want living quarters that are closer to the metro and a bit more intimate. We stopped by to check out Iowa native Scott Matter's downtown Des Moines loft at Whiteline Lofts. Who wouldn't want to be just "a few blocks away from one of the nation's best farmers' market, the Des Moines Social Club, Principal Park and some of the best bike trails in the country."
Have you heard? Zombies are on the loose in Ankeny. Zombie Burger + Shake Lab is opening its third location today at 1550 N. Ankeny Blvd., Suite 100 in the Northview Shopping Center, which is right next to Northview Middle School. You won't find all the same food options from other Zombie Burger locations. There are 16 burgers, 14 shakes, two floats, appetizers and some of the “soylent green” salads on the menu. The hours are Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight.
