Good morning, Iowa!

Happy Thursday. The sun is shining down on us and it's the perfect to pull out your bike for a ride on your nearest trail. Here are a couple of bike rides to check out this year. Have you all seen any of the Art Route paintings downtown? They're pretty cool. And now for what people are talking about around Des Moines...

Many people would call Mike Draper cool. He founded your favorite Des Moines-famous T-shirt empire, Raygun. One part of Draper's like that a little less than modern. His cell phone. It's a small brick of a device that reminds me of Nokias of the past. As one of our reporters traipsed across the state covering the Iowa caucuses this year (remember that?), she noticed a trend: a lot Iowans don't really care to have smartphones. “Four years ago not having a smartphone was lame, but now it seems to be coming back around, like hammer pants or bell-bottoms.”

There's no such thing as the perfect meal, these dishes at Le Jardin come darn close. Be sure to try the black garlic Alaskan halibut ($24) paired with a glass of rose ($7.50) and the peach cobbler coffee cake ($3).
