Wednesday: Rebecca Skloot, the best-selling author of "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," speaks at 7 p.m. at Hoyt Sherman Place, 1501 Woodland Ave. The book deals with the HeLa, an "immortal cell line" harvested from cervical cancer patient Henrietta Lacks in 1951. Mixology Night

Comedy XPeriment
Friday-Saturday: Improv comedy troupe Comedy XPeriment performs "April Showers, Improv Flowers" shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 9 p.m. Saturday in the Civic Center's Stoner Theater, 221 Walnut St. Comedy XPeriment mixes short form improv skits with longer pieces using suggestions from the audience. $10. Iowa Energy
