Brooks Wheelan

Friday: Iowa native and (brief) "Saturday Night Live" cast member Brooks Wheelan performs at 9 p.m. in the Great Hall of the Iowa Stae University Memorial Union, 2229 Lincoln Way, Ames. In addition to SNL, Wheelan also appeared on the most recent season of "Girls." The show is part of Wheelan's "Brooks Wheelan Falls Back on Standup Comedy (sorta) Tour." Free. Go to


Friday: Florida pop punks Yellowcard return for a show at 7:30 p.m. at Wooly's, 504 E. Locust St. The group is known for songs like "Ocean Avenue," "Lights and Sounds" and "Light Up the Sky." Jeff The Brotherhood

Saturday: Brothers Jake and Jamin Orrall bring their garage rock group Jeff the Brotherhood to Vaudeville Mews, 212 Fourth St., at 9 p.m. Last month the band released its third album, "Wasted on a Dream," and this summer will return as part of Mumford & Sons Gentlemen of the Road Stopover in Waverly. Sit On It

Saturday: The Young Women's Resource Center hosts Sit On It starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center, 833 Fifth Ave. Local artists and merchants have designed pieces of furniture and other artwork for live and silent auctions. The event also features a dinner and will honor MAry Lynne Jones as the YWRC's 2015 Visionary Woman. $65 for people younger than 35, $125 for others. Go to

Kid Ink

Saturday: "Main Chick" rapper Kid Ink returns to perform at 8 p.m. at Seven Flags Event Center, 2100 N.W. 100th St., Clive. Kid Ink's hits include "Show Me," "Bad Ass" and "Iz U Down." In February Kid Ink released his third album, "Full Speed," featuring the hit "Body Language." $20. Go to

Soil and Psychostick

Sunday: Metal bands Soil and Psychostick co-headline a show at 6 p.m. at the Val Air Ballroom, 301 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines.
