Steel Panther

Friday: The humorous glam metal group Steel Panther returns for an 8 p.m. show at Val Air Ballroom, 301 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines. The band's image pays tribute to the sex and drugs lifestyle of 80's bands like Motley Crue, Steel Panther released its third album, "All You Can Eat," last year. $30. Go to

'The Addams Family'

Friday-Sunday: The classic TV series "The Addams Family," comes to life with shows at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Des Moines Playhouse, 831 42nd St. The musical tells the story of grown-up Wednesday Addams who falls in love with a normal young man, and how the odd family copes. Paul Doffing

Saturday: Ames musician Paul Doffing plays a release show for his album "Songs from the (quaking) Heart" at 8 p.m. at Bluestem, 3329 Lincoln Way, Ames. It will be Doffing's final Ames show for a while, he's about to hit the road, touring the world on a bicycle and playing music as he goes. Like Caine from "Kung Fu," but with bikes and guitars instead of kicking. $10. Go to

Food Truck Throw Down

Saturday: The Des Moines Social Club, 900 Mulberry St., hosts the first Food Truck Throw Down from 5-10 p.m. Participating trucks include The Spot, Street Eats DSM, Powered By Fries, Taco Loco, Say Cheese DSM and more. Summer Brewfest

Saturday: The ninth annual Summer Brewfest returns to Principal Park, One Line Drive, from 2-5 p.m. More than 400 varieties of beer will be available to taste, and experts will share their knowledge. $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Tickets available at


Saturday: Water Works Park, 2201 George Flagg Parkway, will be hosting a lot of big events this summer. Get a taste for what's to come at Launch, 11 a.m.-6 p.m. at the park. Girls Rock! Pedal Jam

Sunday: Girls Rock! Des Moines hosts a Pedal Jam starting at 12:30 p.m. at the Des Moines Social Club, 900 Mulberry St. Fans bike to Confluence Brewery, Mullet's and back to the Social Club, enjoying shows by Hot Lady Band, Patresa Hartman, Jenny Kohls and Mary McAdams, Ramona and the Slim Dudes, Peace, Love & Stuff, Sarah and the Meanies and headliner Caroline Smith at each stop. $30-$50.
