Why Fuzzy’s Taco Shop may just be your next favorite hangout
Sorry, B-Dubs. There’s a new sports chain in town.
First in Ankeny and now in Des Moines, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is making a delicious statement around the metro. One that caters to taco lovers and sports enthusiasts alike.
Find it on the corner of MLK and SW 3rd St. next to Jimmy John’s and the new Guru BBQ. You can’t miss its large garage doors, which come summer, will open up to the patio. (Yes, DSM, another patio!)
Sunny walls decked in local sports memorabilia guide you to the counter where you pick up your buzzer and free Fuzzy’s cup. Pop a squat at one of the various tables or at the blue-tiled bar for a cold one. Either way, you’ll have a great view of the game, thanks to 21 flatscreens around the restaurant.
Wait no more than 15 minutes for food, and five for a staff member to come up and chat with you. On a scale of one to ten, they’re like the Hy-Vee of friendliness. The only thing better? The food. Here’s the deets.
Tacos, tacos, tacos
If you’re a sucker for tacos, Fuzzy’s is the place. Stuff your face with over ten Baja taco variations such as shredded brisket, grilled veggie and fajita chicken. Or go with the trendiest of all, the California Heat: shrimp, bacon, avocado, pico, cheese and sriracha-lime sauce on a soft or crunchy shell. Talk about a killer taco!
Note: If you’re craving a fish taco but don’t like it too fishy, go with tempura over grilled. The deep-fried fish has a flaky golden crunch without the ocean aftertaste.
Seriously jumbo burritos
If you’re really hungry (and we mean really hungry) go with a jumbo burrito. The Pancheros-size eat comes in your choice of meat -- chicken, spicy pork, shrimp, beans -- and is packed with all the essentials: beans, rice, guac, onions, tomatoes and cheese. Smother it in queso (as every burrito should be) for the best sports bar burrito you’ve never had. Bonus: they have breakfast burritos, too!
Fall into a sugar coma with just one bite of these signature Spanish treats. They’re crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside, and are coated in perfect parts cinnamon and sugar. Now if only they had a chocolate or caramel dipping sauce. (And sprinkles, obvs.)
