Hi, I'm the person behind all the new bylines at Juice

You may have read my words in Juice's twice-a-week newsletter (that you should totally subscribe to) or maybe you don't even know me at all?

In the words of the great prophet Shawn Corey Carter, allow me to re-introduce myself.

I'm the new community content specialist for and Datebook, where I will be working hard to keep you updated on all things food, drink and culture in Des Moines. You know, what's hot and what's not.

Three things to know about me:

  1. I love pineapples on my pizza. It's the best. Do not debate me on this.
  2. Khloe is my favorite (and the best) Kardashian. Do not debate me on this.
  3. My favorite thing about Des Moines is the Downtown Farmers' Market. Can it be May 7 already?

So far, I'll be giving you all my super-hot takes on Zombie Burger's new wing menu via Snapchat (username: dmjuice).

Beyond food and drink, I want Juice to be an authentic reflection of what's happening in our communities.

Currently, I'm working on a project that's tied to Mother's Day about the weird, funny and heartwarming moments that we have with our mothers via text message. You can catch me in person this Thursday at the Des Moines Social Club from around noon to 1 p.m., where I'll be looking to hear about all of your #LoveMomTexts.

Here's the fun part: YOU get to tell ME what to do for my first month on the job.

Over the next month or so, I want to spend a portion of my time taking part in some of the things that YOU find exciting about the city. How can I report on what's buzzing in the city from the outside looking in? Here's a hint: I can't.

Each time I try something new, I'll report my findings.

There are four categories and I'll be picking one activity from each category:

Drink: Is there a new cocktail at your favorite bar that's to-die for?

Food: Is there an exotic dish that you've heard about, but haven't been brave enough to try? Send me the dish and I'll give it a try.

Person: Des Moines is nothing without its wonderful residents. Tell me about your teachers, tattoo artists, poets, etc. who are doing cool things in the community.

Event: Is there a reoccurring event that should be on my radar? I want to hear about it.

Tweet me @AmeenaRasheed or email me at I'm looking forward to all of your crazy suggestions.
