5 ways to celebrate Prince's legacy in Des Moines
All across the world, people are celebrating the life of superstar singer and songwriter Prince.
We've seen purple lights on monuments, theater marquees and more around the globe. But what are Iowans doing to remember the legendary artist?
So far, here's what we know:
Flix Brewhouse is planning to show the film "Purple Rain" on Wednesday, April 27, at 7 p.m. Tickets will cost $5. To reserve your seats, purchase your tickets here.
On Thursday night, Juniper Moon announced a special "Purple Rain" cocktail with Magellan gin, Pama pomegranate liqueur, mint simple syrup, fresh-squeezed lemon and Wild Maine blueberry syrup a.k.a "Purple Rain." While this Facebook post mentioned that it could be purchased "tonight only," the ingredients are still available at the bar and you will be able to order it this weekend if you want to.
Stop by the Financial Center, 666 Walnut St., around 8:30 or 9 p.m. and you'll get a treat: According to the building's owner, they will be lighting the building purple in honor of Prince. In the past, the owners have lit the building in an assortment of hues. See the gallery below.
DES MOINES SOCIAL CLUB
Speaking of lighting up the city, the Des Moines Social Club will be turning its light-up "DMSC" letters purple for the weekend at around 6 p.m.
The East Village location is showing some love for the purple one with it's #ZBoftheWeek (Zombie Burger of the Week). The burger joint's newest creation is called "Under the Cherry Moon," and it includes Brie cheese, caramelized onions, crispy pancetta, cherry compote and peppercorn mayo. And that's not all!
Once you're done with this burger, cleanse your palate with the raspberry beret shake. The shake includes vanilla ice cream, raspberry puree and turtle cookie pieces. You can also get it spiked with raspberry vodka.
