In anticipation of Des Moines’ first all hip-hop festival, Fresh Fest, the next edition of Juice Side Sessions features Iowa rapper and Fresh Fest performer Jason “Gadema” Herron.

Gadema brings his proficient talents to the Fresh Fest stage at 3 p.m. on Saturday, where he’ll perform alongside Tripp. Festival performances are set to take place at the Des Moines Social Club on Friday and Saturday across multiple stages.

But, before taking his talents to Fresh Fest, Gadema performed his track, “Chasing Freedom,” for the latest edition of Juice Side Sessions on the Social Club rooftop.

“I think the festival coming to Des Moines (is) definitely necessary and long overdue,” Gadema said.

Fresh Fest is also set to feature a city-wide b-boy tournament, an urban fashion show and performances from national, regional and local acts. A two-day pass to the event costs $25 and a VIP ticket costs $55. More information can be found at

Gadema dropped his latest record, “There Will Be Better Days,” last September and it can be heard at
