Iowa City is home to one of the best college bars in America
We all have that one favorite bar where we go to enjoy a couple of drinks. It might be your favorite because of the range of beer selection, the atmosphere, or maybe even the staff who serve you.
For many college kids, their bar life is important. So where's the best college bar in Iowa? It's a popular spot in Iowa City, according to one dining website.
Deadwood Tavern, located at 6 S Dubuque Street, was recognized by Delish.com earlier in February as the best college bar in Iowa, part of the website's rankings of "The 51 Best College Bars In America."
"Deadwood Tavern is just the right hybrid of a townie and student bar," Delish.com wrote. "While not overrun with drunk college kids, it's got a young, fun feel, complete with pinball, a jukebox and a pool table room."
In April 2016, Deadwood celebrated 25 years of operation. Owner Jim Bell said back then the best part of the job "is the people," whether that be his staff or the regulars.
"When people come here, they want to get drinks and talk," Bell said. "It's a community hub more than anything."
Deadwood is a traditional tavern that can hold up to 218 people and includes a couple of pool tables and five pinball machines, Iowa City Press Citizen reporter Zach Berg wrote.
Deadwood also has solid reviews on social media, owning a 4.4/5 rating on Facebook. Of the 165 reviews, 114 users gave Deadwood a 5-star rating.
"We used to be the old hippie bar, but we've run out of old hippies," Bell told Berg.
