The Beer Brackets have returned!

For the second time in as many years, craft beer aficionados can cast a vote for which Iowa beer they find the finest in the Des Moines Register’s Beer Brackets. Sponsored by the all-Iowa beer hall The Iowa Taproom, Beer Brackets features a total 64 beers will face off across four brackets, with the winner being announced March 28. Each bracket varies in beer style: dark and malty; light; strong, sour or fruity; and hoppy.

How it works:

  • Click through to desmoinesregister.com/beerbrackets. It’s free and requires no registration.
  • Pick which beer in each matchup you want to see advance to the round of 32.
  • Click “vote” at the bottom of the matchup.
  • Repeat throughout each of the four brackets.

Mark your calendar: A Beer Brackets tasting event is coming to the Iowa Taproom March 24 from 4-6 p.m. That’s right … free beer! Those of age will be able to sample the final four beers at the Taproom and vote on which two should head to the championship round immediately after tasting.

The Des Moines Register Beer Brackets launched in 2016 with more than 11,000 votes cast through six rounds of voting. The West Okoboji-based beer CocO Stout from West O Beer took home the top prize, defeating Passé from Clive-based 515 Brewing. Know which Iowa beer is your favorite?
