A new take on a gastropub featuring a mix of stylish cocktails and signature dishes has opened in Ankeny.
Tavern 180, an upbeat, custom-crafted food and drink experience originating from Omaha has joined the culinary scene in Ankeny at 1975 N. Ankeny Blvd., #117. It's the popular eatery's second location.
Tavern 180 opened its doors on Thursday, July 12, at 4 p.m. for dinner.
The restaurant’s unique menu is made up of dishes like Kobe Beef Sliders, USDA prime steaks from Allen Brothers, Inc. of Chicago, and the signature Wagyu Hanging Beef Tenderloin often called hanger steak. The restaurant team aims for unpretentious service in the stylish, 50-seat space.
"Our name always intrigues people and once they come for a drink or a meal, they realize what it’s all about," said Executive Chef Roberto Manriquez. "It’s so much more than a tavern. It’s a 180 from that, and we’re excited for Ankeny residents to discover us.”
Happy hour at Tavern 180 will include innovative cocktails such as Tavern Bubbles — a fruit-flavored cocktail that bubbles and smokes.
The full bar area also offers some classic twists on old favorites like the Sazerac, a take on the traditional Old Fashioned.
“With Tavern 180, we wanted to provide residents with a place that would be a no-brainer for happy hour, but also not serve all the typical fried bar food you would get other places," Manriquez said.
"We wanted to put a little style in people’s evenings out as well, so we made sure the menu is a mix of eclectic dishes that folks would want to sit down and enjoy a meal out on the town with friends and colleagues."
