A popular Chicago deep-dish pizza restaurant is making its way into the Des Moines metro.

Giordano’s Pizzeria will occupy a new freestanding building in the newly-built Bridgewood Square retail center in West Des Moines at 120 Jordan Creek Parkway, said Andy Hodges, vice president of Signature Commercial Real Estate.

Originating in Chicago, Giordano's has more than 40 stores, mostly in the Chicago area but also in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada and Ohio.

The West Des Moines store will be the company's first in Iowa.

In October 2017, Giordano's announced on its Facebook page that Des Moines was a finalist in the running for a restaurant. A voting competition pitted Des Moines against Omaha, Dallas, Cincinnati and Houston. Omaha garnered the most votes.

Though a timeline has not been confirmed, Hodges said he estimates the chain may come in summer 2019.
