A West Des Moines taco joint is changing its name.
R Taco, known for its street tacos made with fresh and simple ingredients, is celebrating its roots with a return to its original name, Rusty Taco.
The restaurant will hold an all-weekend party with $2 tacos from Friday, Jan. 18 at 10:30 a.m. until Sunday, Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. at 9500 University Avenue, Suite 2108 in West Des Moines.
“In our hearts, we’ve always been Rusty Taco, so we decided to go back to our roots and continue Rusty’s legacy of approachable, delicious food with the original name," the owners said. "Our menu and commitment to fresh, street-inspired tacos and cheap tequila and lime margaritas remains true to Rusty’s vision and we invite the community to come celebrate with us.”

The restaurant serves over 20 different varieties of tacos, sides, desserts and kids' meals. Soft drinks include fountain drinks, Jarritos and bottled Mexican cola.
Assorted beers are available along with margaritas made with fresh lime juice and cheap tequila served on the rocks or frozen.
According to a press release, Rusty Taco was opened in 2010 by founder Rusty Fenton, who was inspired by his passion for food and his travels throughout the U.S. and Mexico to create a taco stand that served authentic food and drinks at affordable prices in a welcoming environment for all.
The return to the original name reflects the company’s dedication to Rusty Taco’s genuine family heritage and Fenton’s vision of a community-driven gathering place with a kicked-back, blue jeans-vibe.
Rusty Taco is a fast-casual restaurant concept and was founded in 2010. The brand was purchased in 2014 by Buffalo Wild Wings — now part of Inspire Brands which also owns Arby’s — and was renamed R Taco in 2015. Rusty Taco operates 30 locations in seven states.
