Fans of this Iowa coffeehouse with a location in downtown Des Moines will soon be able to sip on the same java in a new metro location.
Smokey Row has announced plans to open its fifth coffee shop this fall in Ankeny 1510 SW Vintage Parkway in Ankeny.
The 150-seatcoffeehouse will be located inside a newly-constructed 47,000-square-foot building on the northeast corner of SW State Street and SW Vintage Parkway in The District at Prairie Trail in Ankeny.
Construction will begin on the The District Smokey Row in the spring. Founder and owner Krista Bennett said the location will feature Smokey Row’s signature eclectic design and will include artwork meaningful to the area.
“I first heard about the Prairie Trail development over 10 years ago and thought that it would be the perfect location,” Bennett said. “We’ve watched it grow into a thriving destination in the center of Ankeny and feel the time is right for us to add a Smokey Row there.”

Bennett said the new spot will maintain a menu similar to its other locations, featuring specialty coffees and teas.
“We are proud to source the best beans from small farms and roast our own coffee in small batches which maximizes freshness," she said. Breakfast items, salads, soups and sandwiches will also be offered.
Smokey Row first opened in Pleasantville in 1998. The business has become a family affair, with Bennett working side-by-side with her father, who acts as general manager; sister, who oversees human resources; and nephew, a roastmaster.
“We’ve had an amazing staff, some that have stayed with us 10, 15, 20 years,” Bennett said. “We’ve been able to build a sense of community and family which was really the most important part of the business for us."
“We are thrilled to announce Smokey Row is coming to The District,” said Ashley Johnson, director of marketing for DRA Properties, the developer of Prairie Trail. “Smokey Row is a well-loved brand in central Iowa, created by local entrepreneurs with proven expertise. It’s exactly the type of business we love to bring to The District and to Ankeny.”
Johnson said in addition to adding a location in The District, SmokeyRowCoast beer was recently launched in conjunction with NoCoast Brewery of Oskaloosa. An app for mobile ordering is expected to launch soon.
Smokey Row also has locations in Oskaloosa, Pella and Des Moines.
