Zombie Burger + Shake Lab is closing after almost three years in Ankeny
Zombie Burger's 'The Walking Ched' has people fighting on social media. Some people argue that it's all things bad while others desperately need it in their lives. Would you possess the bravery to eat this monster burger?
The hungry hordes in Ankeny will have to head to another location for a taste of undead unctuousness.
According to a post on its Facebook page, the Zombie Burger + Shake Lab in Ankeny, 1550 N. Ankeny Blvd., Suite 100, will be closing after its final day of service on Jan. 31.

Zombie Burger + Shake Lab, a gourmet burger and milkshake restaurant, invaded Ankeny in May 2016, infecting local residents and visitors alike with the fever for its unique take on burgers and shakes.
And that includes a craving sickness like the Walking Ched, a single, double or triple burger patty topped with mac and cheese, crispy bacon, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, red onions and mayo and served on a hamburger bun made from deep-fried mac and cheese croquettes.
Three locations of Zombie Burger continue to operate in Iowa:
- Coral Ridge Mall, 1451 Coral Ridge Ave., Coralville, (319) 625-2252;
- 300 E. Grand Ave., Des Moines, (515) 244-9292;
- Jordan Creek Town Center, 101 Jordan Creek Parkway, Suite 12514, West Des Moines, (515) 267-9046
Zombie Burger is owned and operated by Orchestrate Hospitality in Des Moines.
"We are disappointed to announce the closure," said Paul Rottenberg of Orchestrate. "We have enjoyed being a part of the Ankeny community over the past several years. The 'Shake Lab' brand was designed to test our handmade and fresh-focused concept across various environments. While we were not able to replicate the volume of our other units, this is a strong location in a great property that would work well for the right concept."
