The team behind some of Des Moines’ most popular eateries has set its sights on Pella for a new Iowa dining destination.

Chef George Formaro and Orchestrate Hospitality will open Liberty Street Kitchen in the Royal Amsterdam Hotel located at 705 E. 1st Street in Pella this summer. It will go into the space formerly occupied by Monarchs Restaurant and Lounge, which closed at the end of 2018.

Located on Pella’s Molengracht Plaza and adjacent to the town’s bustling square, Liberty Street Kitchen will be a new dining concept in Orchestrate’s family of restaurants.

“Liberty Street Kitchen represents everything that inspires me about world cuisine,” says Chef George Formaro, a Des Moines native and six-time James Beard Award nominee. “With flavors and ingredients from around the globe and our own backyard, our menu is rooted in history while speaking to today’s culinary experience.”

Liberty Street Kitchen will be a casual bistro celebrating contemporary rural living and offering internationally inspired cuisine with a local focus.

The menu will showcase refined salads and small plates, hearty entrees, sandwiches and other items. They'll also serve signature cocktails, craft beer and a thoughtful wine list.

Featuring a comfortably elegant dining room and bar, the team is expecting the restaurant to be a new gathering place for Pella residents and visitors alike.

“We’re excited to join the community,” said Orchestrate Hospitality President Paul Rottenberg. “Pella is a unique town with a rich heritage. We’ve already received outstanding civic support and encouragement and look forward to welcoming everyone to Liberty Street Kitchen.”

Orchestrate Hospitality is undertaking a full remodel of the restaurant’s approximately 6,500-square-foot space. The dining room will seat 122 people and will offer additional private- and semi-private dining and banquet accommodations for groups of up to 70.

A bar and lounge area will accommodate 36, and a canal-facing patio will seat 60 for al fresco dining. Liberty Street Kitchen also plans to offer catering.

Other restaurant concepts in the Orchestrate Hospitality portfolio include Centro, Django, Malo, Gateway Market & Cafe and Zombie Burger + Drink Lab. Orchestrate Hospitality also manages Des Moines restaurants Bubba and Teddy Maroon’s.
