A five-student management team from Des Moines Central Campus was crowned the state champion in the management portion of the 2019 Iowa ProStart Invitational hosted by the Iowa Restaurant Association Education Foundation.

The team advances to the national invitational and will represent Iowa in Washington, D.C., from May 8 to 10.

They will compete against winning teams from across the county for the national title as well as for scholarship opportunities. 

Central Campus beat management teams from across the state at an event held at the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines on Feb. 26.

Other winners:

  • 2nd place – Hampton-Dumont
  • 3rd place – Davenport Community Schools

Management teams were challenged to create an original restaurant concept. They wrote business proposals and then pitched their concepts to a panel of Iowa restaurant industry professionals who posed as potential investors. They judged their business plans, teamwork, presentation skills and critical thinking abilities.

ProStart is a nationwide, career and technical education program that develops high school students into tomorrow’s leaders and workforce.
