There's no shortage of steak in Des Moines. Many of our steakhouses have been serving up juicy cuts of beef for years.

With the recent openings of two Brazilian steakhouses and an Argentine brasero, a South American influence is beginning to change steakhouse culture in the metro. And that means more meat.

Here are the places in Des Moines where you can order the perfect steak dinner with all the fixings. 

801 Chophouse

For a one-of-a-kind steakhouse experience, 801 Chophouse is the place for you. With prime steaks, white tablecloth service and an award-winning wine list, this is a place where many locals like to celebrate special occasions.

AJ's Steakhouse

Feeling lucky? Head to Prairie Meadows casino and hit the jackpot (of steaks). Iowa beef in cuts such as the cowboy ribeye, New York strip and, of course, steak de Burgo make the menu at AJ's Steakhouse.

Al Punto Argentine Restaurant

Al Punto gets its beef from farmers in Nebraska and Iowa and serves only prime and choice grades. Meats are cooked the traditional way on a genuine Argentinian charbroiler fed with red oak. Most meats are presented on a parrillada, a tabletop grill heated with embers. But you can also order charbroiled steaks a la carte.

BAH Brazilian Steakhouse

The Big Steer Restaurant and Lounge

Brazil Terra Grill

Chicago Speakeasy

Food, fun and booze are the calling cards of Chicago Speakeasy, which opened in 1977. Look for prime rib, steaks, seafood, pasta, chicken, ribs, chops and sandwiches as well as a salad bar featuring more than 50 homemade items. Try one of six surf-and-turf style Mafia's Combinations with prime rib or sirloin steak and a choice of shrimp, scallops and king crab legs.

Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar

Enjoy Prime steaks in all your favorite cuts at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in West Des Moines. This upscale chain has locations throughout the country, and it's a great place to splurge on a dry-aged ribeye or a bone-in filet mignon cooked to your liking. Iowa Beef Steakhouse

Serving the carnivorous community since 1982, Iowa Beef Steakhouse is known as one of the premiere go-tos on Des Moines' East Side for seven cuts of beef, plus pork chops, ribs and chicken cooked over charcoal and served with a great choice of toppings and extras. But there are plenty of other options on the menu for lunch and dinner like burgers and desserts like the Black Forest cream pie.

John & Nick's Steak & Prime Rib Inc.

For hand-cut Black Angus USDA Choice steaks, John & Nick's Steak & Prime Rib in Clive is your best bet. And prime rib can be found here in 8- or 12-ounce cuts (or larger), along with plenty of steaks in variations like De Burgo, ribeyes, shish-ka-bobs, top sirloins, and New York strips. You can even pair your steak with seafood. All dinners come with bread and a side, and access to a 60-item salad bar.

Johnny's Italian Steakhouse

With deep culinary roots in Des Moines, Johnny's Italian Steakhouse continues to participate in the local de Burgo argument: garlic and olive oil or garlic, butter and cream. Now a small chain with 15 locations, there are three locations in the metro serving its signature de Burgo with roasted garlic, basil, oregano and cream sauce. For lunch, try a gourmet grilled cheese with brie and Swiss or share some toasted ravioli.

Montana Mike's Steakhouse

Montana Mike's is a regional steakhouse chain with 14 locations, including two in Iowa: Des Moines and Newton. Choice steaks are the centerpiece of the menu here, along with a big selection of burgers, appetizers, salads and other entrees with plenty of side dish options. Chow down on 18-ounce ancho pepper seasoned T-bone topped with ancho butter.

Ohana Steakhouse

Watch entertaining chefs cook your meal at this Japanese-style teppanyaki steakhouse. At Ohana Steakhouse, you choose your entree from a list of 11 items like filet mignon, shrimp, New York strip, or sesame chicken. Each made-before-your-eyes meal comes with soup, salad, a shrimp appetizer, vegetables, steamed rice, noodles, sauces and a beverage. The Original Jesse's Embers

Watch your steaks being cooked over an open flame grill at The Original Jesse's Embers, a classic steakhouse in the heart of Ingersoll Avenue, or "Restaurant Road." Try the Embers Special, a 12-ounce aged Prime sirloin or London broil served on toasted bread with au jus. All steak dinners include a salad, bread, and a choice of side. Be sure to start with a traditional shrimp cocktail.

Rube's Steakhouse — Waukee

Take charge and cook your own steak at this Waukee steakhouse. Choose your steak from an assortment like bacon-wrapped filet mignon or ribeye, cowboy cut, porterhouse or New York strip. There's even the Belly Buster Top Sirloin — a 3-pound cut of premium top sirloin. If you finish it, you receive a free T-shirt and your picture on the wall of fame. The Rusty Duck Bar & Grille

Take a trip out to Dexter for a classic steak dinner at Rusty Duck. For 17 years, Taki Japanese Steakhouse has been serving up the teppanyaki and hibachi dining experience in Urbandale. Enjoy New York strip and filet mignon cooked right before your eyes. Tavern 180, an upbeat, custom-crafted food and drink experience originating from Omaha, joined the culinary scene in Ankeny in July 2018. It’s a new take on a gastropub featuring a mix of stylish cocktails and signature dishes like Kobe Beef Sliders, USDA prime steaks from Allen Brothers, Inc. of Chicago, and the signature Wagyu Hanging Beef Tenderloin, or hanger steak.

Trostel's Greenbriar

Even though the menu at Trostel's Greenbriar includes something for every palate, regulars know this is the place to come to for a full line of steaks. Enjoy house favorites like the ribeye steak with a 'gunpowder crust,' or beef tenderloin Oscar with crab meat, asparagus spears and bearnaise sauce. New York strips, filet mignon, prime rib and De Burgo also make the menu.
