A longtime pasta, sandwich and pizza shop on Des Moines' south side has announced it is closing after 26 years in business.
Noodles Pasta & Sandwich Shop, located at 2924 SW Ninth St. in Des Moines, announced on its Facebook page on Monday that it's closing its doors permanently on Aug. 30.
"It’s been a joy serving our loyal customers throughout the last 26 years," the Facebook post said. "Our lease has come to an end, as every good thing eventually comes to an end. We are very saddened by closing, its like losing a member of the family as this place held a lot of family memories."
Owned by Peter Leonetti, Jr., Noodles is known for its affordable homemade pizza, sandwiches and pasta dishes served in a homey, unpretentious atmosphere. Favorites include items like cavatelli casserole with ground sausage served with garlic bread, jumbo Italian sausage grinders with peppers and fries and, of course, fresh-baked pizzas.
The small dining room is decorated with pictures Frank Sinatra, the Leonetti family and Iowa Cubs players of the past.
On May 20, the restaurant announced it was no longer fulfilling DoorDash delivery orders due to incorrect orders.
"We will remember so many of you and bless your hearts for keeping us going all these years," the Facebook post said.
