A popular Nepalese-Indian restaurant on the south side of Des Moines is moving its location in the months ahead.

Kathmandu Restaurant, located at 1421 SE 14th Street in Des Moines, will be moving to Apple Valley retail strip center at 7200 University Ave. in Windsor Heights.

The new location is currently under construction and the projected opening date will be during the first week of October.

Kathmandu is known for its South Asian cuisine including dal, samosas and momo dumplings, biryani, naan and curries. Plenty of vegetarian dishes can also be found on the menu.

Kathmandu opened in November 2016, the dream of Thakur Neupane and his family who reunited in Des Moines as refugees from Nepal and Bhutan 10 years ago. 

Kathmandu Restaurant will remain open during and after the move, transitioning to a Nepali bar and grill.
