The power is in your hands.

Three new Iowa State Fair foods will compete for the coveted People's Choice Best New Food Award.

Two finalists — Georgie’s Roast with the Most Wrap and The Chief — were selected Tuesday by a panel of judges that included Des Moines Register food and dining reporter Brian Taylor Carlson.

The third finalist will be picked by voters using the Iowa State Fair's new app. Voting closes at 10 a.m. Friday.

Best new food finalists chosen by judges

  • Georgie’s Roast with the Most Wrap: Located at G Mig’s Wrap Stand, this new food is a cheddar tortilla wrap with tender beef pot roast, a white rice mixture containing Chorizo sausage crumbles, roasted green chilies, cheddar-Jack cheese, candy corn salsa, crispy corn tortilla crumbles and a sour cream drizzle, served with a zesty salsa verde sauce on the side ($10). Gluten-free wraps are available at an additional cost.
  • The Chief: A new creation of Navajo barbecue fried bread with slow-smoked beef brisket topped with cilantro-lime slaw and a salsa cream drizzle ($8). Find The Chief at The Rib Shack. A slow-smoked pork option is also available.

Here are the remaining choices to vote for:

  • Chicken Street Tacos
  • Chuckie’s Pork Strip Basket
  • Funnel Fries
  • Jalapeno Popper Pizza
  • Pete's Steak Popper
  • The Colossus

There will be 57 new foods at the Iowa State Fair this year (one more than last year). The fair runs from Aug. 8 to 18.

Fairgoers can sample the top three finalists and cast their vote for the People’s Choice Best New Food from Aug. 8 until midnight on Aug. 12. The winner will be announced Aug. 14.
