A new sports bar and grill is coming to Ingersoll Avenue in September.
The Station on Ingersoll, owned by T.J. Rushing and Alex Mason of Des Moines and Willie Dugan of Kansas City, will open in September at 3124 Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines in the former spot of Zimm's Food & Spirits.
"For those of you in the Des Moines area, the bar and grill myself and business partner Alex Mason have taken ownership of is the old Zimm’s," Rushing announced on Twitter and Facebook. "We’re packing it with TVs and giving the Ingersoll area a true sports bar. We’ll be open in September, so come and see us!"
The sports bar and grill is currently being renovated and will feature an outdoor patio, hand-painted mural artwork by local artist Jenna Brownlee and a bar in the back of the property called The Hideaway.
The menu is still in the works, but high-quality pub fare is in store using local, fresh ingredients. Look for wings, nachos, burgers and cheese sticks. The front bar will feature all the sports packages from DirecTV including MLB, NBA, NFL, NHL and MLS.
Mason is the former general manager of GoodSons bar in Beaverdale where he has worked since 2009.
Rushing has been a sports reporter in Iowa for the last 16 years including sports editor for his high school newspaper, The Hoover Challenger, the Iowa State Daily and freelance work for the Des Moines Register. For the past five years, he has worked for Prep Hoops, a high school sports recruiting media outlet.
