Gusto Pizza Co. closing a West Des Moines location; owners will open tequila and taco bar
Without a doubt, the coolest way to serve a tequila shot.
Gusto Pizza Co. is closing its location on the border of Waukee and West Des Moines at the end of the week to make way for a new restaurant.
Gusto's owners will reopen the space, 8950 University Ave., as El Guapo’s Tequila + Tacos, an upscale bar featuring tequilas, tequila-inspired creations, Mexican beer and street tacos.
El Guapo is expected to open in early October.
“We have enjoyed a successful six years at that location, but in that time, have seen the restaurant landscape change considerably," co-owner Josh Holderness said. "My partners and I felt that this was the right time to bring a new and original concept to the neighborhood.”
Holderness said neighboring families and workers have been the backbone to the restaurant’s success.
Gusto will remain open through Sunday.
Three other Gusto locations remain open serving pizza, deep dish, salads and sandwiches:
- 1905 Ingersoll Ave., No. 106, Des Moines
- 2800 University Ave., Ste. 400, West Des Moines
- 8705 Chambery Blvd., Ste. 100, Johnston
The Gustomobile food trailer is on the road this summer, appearing at concerts and festivals.
Gusto Pizza Co. was founded by Tony Lemmo, Josh Holderness and Joe McConville in 2011.
