Veterans Day 2019: Freebies, deals and discounts in the Des Moines metro

Veterans Day is Nov. 11, and now is the time to plan a meal out to honor the servicemen and women in your life.
And there are plenty of restaurant specials to be enjoyed with discounts and freebies across the Des Moines metro.
We recommend calling ahead just in case to ensure metro locations of chain restaurants will be honoring these deals.
And be sure to bring your valid military ID or honorable discharge card for proof of service.
Veterans Day freebies, deals and discounts
Angry Goldfish Pub & Eatery: Veterans can enjoy 50% off on Nov. 11.
Applebee's Grill + Bar: All active military members and veterans will receive a free meal from any of Applebee's participating locations. Dine-in only.
Bakers Square Restaurant & Bakery: Active-duty military and veterans can enjoy a free meal.
Bar Louie: Free flatbread or burger up to $15 value.
BeerStyles Taproom & Gastropub and SALT of the Hearth: Veterans are offered happy hour specials for the entire day including $2 off all Iowa draws, $3 off signature cocktails, $4 house fries and $5 quarter-pound burgers.
Bonefish Grill: All active and retired service members with a valid military ID will receive a complimentary appetizer such as Mussels Josephine, Calamari, Imperial Dip and the famous Bang Bang Shrimp (large portion of tuna sashimi not available) at any Bonefish Grill location.
Bruegger’s Bagels: Free medium drip coffee with military ID (no purchase necessary).
Buffalo Wild Wings: All day, veterans and active-duty military get a free order of small boneless or traditional wings and a side of fries for dine-in only. Beverages, taxes, and gratuity are not included. Proof of military service is required and you may also wear your military uniform or bring a photo of you wearing it.
Cici's Pizza: Free adult buffet.
Chili's Grill & Bar: All veterans & active military members can get a free meal from a special menu.
Claxon's Smokehouse & Grill: Free two-meat and two-side dinner all day for retired or active military ($16.99 value).
Cracker Barrel: Choice of a complimentary slice of Double Chocolate Fudge Coca-Cola Cake or a pumpkin pie latte.
Denny's: Denny's will offer service members a complimentary Build Your Own Grand Slam including a choice of four breakfast items such as two buttermilk pancakes, two eggs or egg whites cooked to order, two bacon or turkey bacon strips, buttermilk biscuits or hash browns. For dine-in only from 5 a.m.-12 p.m. with a valid military ID.
Dunkin': Free donuts to active duty military and veterans, limited to one per customer while supplies last.
Famous Dave's: All former and current military personnel will receive a free two meat combo.
Hy-Vee: Enjoy a free breakfast for veterans and active military members from 6-11 a.m.
IHOP: Complimentary Red, White, and Blueberry pancakes or breakfast combos to honor the service of our veterans and active military men and women.
Krispy Kreme: Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut and small coffee (no purchase required) to veterans and active service members.
Little Caesars: All United States Armed Forces veterans and active military will receive a free HOT-N-READY Lunch Combo at participating stores nationwide.
Menchie's: All veterans and active-duty military will receive their first six ounces free when they present their valid military ID or proof of service at the time of purchase.
Noodles & Company: Offers 15 percent off year-round to military, veterans and first responders.
Olive Garden: With proof of military service, all U.S. veterans and active service members can enjoy a free entrée from a select menu including cheese ravioli, spaghetti with meat sauce, Lasagna Classico, chicken parmigiana or chicken piccata as well as freshly baked garlic breadsticks and a choice of homemade soup or signature house salad (dine-in only; beverages and gratuity not included).
On The Border: All active and retired members of the U.S. military are invited to receive a free meal that includes two items served with rice and beans.
Outback Steakhouse: Any military member, police officer, firefighter or first responder who orders food at an Outback location between Nov. 8-11 are eligible to receive 20% off their entire check. On Veterans Day, get a free Bloomin’ Onion and Coke product.
Perkins Restaurant & Bakery: With your military ID, get a free Magnificent 7 breakfast at participating Perkins Restaurant & Bakery locations.
Pie Five Pizza: Free personal pizza for active and retired military and current or past members of the Armed Forces or Department of Defense (with military ID or proof of service; in-store only at participating locations).
QuikTrip: Free self-serve coffee to any active or former military members (show a military ID at checkout) at any QT location all day.
Red Lobster: Free appetizer or dessert with valid military ID or proof of service.
Red Robin: Veterans and active-duty military can get a free Red's Tavern Double burger and Bottomless Steak Fries. Be sure to bring your military ID.
Scooter's Coffee: From November 6 through November 15, customers can add $1 to their order (proceeds go to Wounded Warriors Family Support). Customers can also nominate a veteran to receive a vehicle (the veteran must have been wounded during combat operations and been honorably discharged).
Starbucks: One free tall (12-ounce) hot brewed coffee (valid for all U.S. company-operated and licensed stores).
The Station on Ingersoll: Enjoy a free Station Burger and fries.
Texas Roadhouse: Free meal for lunch to active, former, or retired military (dine-in only; hours may vary by location, so be sure to check a Texas Roadhouse near you for specific details).
Twin Peaks: Select free menu items: chicken tenders, Carolina pulled pork sandwich, cheeseburger and The Wedge.
Village Inn: Free meals to active duty military and veterans on Veterans Day and a 10% military discount all year long (will also raise funds for the Folded Flag Foundation from now through Veterans Day).
