Civic Music Association announces 8 new acts

At Friday night's Ellis and Delfeayo Marsalis show, the Civic Music Association announced its 2015-2016 season of acts. Here's the lineup:

Turtle Island Quartet with Cyrus Chestnut (Sept. 10): The Grammy-winning group performs with jazz pianist Chestnut, focusing on the work of Jelly Roll Morton, Thelonius Monk and others.

Cecile McLorin Salvant (Oct. 24): Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition winner, in 2014 Salvant won the Downbeat Jazz Album of the Year for "WomanChild."

Joey Defrancesco Quartet (Nov. 14): Organ jazz innovator who has recorded more than 30 albums and toured with Miles Davis, David Sanborn and John McLaughlin.

Calmus A Special Holiday Concert (Dec. 10): A capella quintet from Germany performing a holiday show.

Dali Quartet (Jan. 23, 2016): Classical/romantic string quartet performing Latin American chamber music.

Gregory Porter (Feb. 3, 2016): Grammy-winning jazz vocalist.

Bria Skonberg Quartet (March 26, 2016): Jazz trumpeter who swept the 2014 Hot House Jazz Magazine Awards, winning Best Jazz Artist, Best Trumpet, Best Female Vocalist and Best Group.

Jeremy Denk (April 15): MacArthur Genius Fellowship winning pianist, as well as Musical America's 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year.

Full season tickets run from $200 to $340 and are on sale now through Midwestix. The shows will be held at Drake University's Sheslow Auditorium. Single tickets go on sale July 15.
