ZZZ Records wants to find Iowa's most unique record
Des Moines-based record store ZZZ Records celebrates its 15th anniversary Saturday, Oct. 3. In anticipation of the event, owner Nate Niceswanger wants to find Iowa's most unique record.
"Most people who have a record collection have an odd record," Niceswanger said. "[The contest] seemed like a thing most people could participate in."
Niceswanger is holding a contest from now until ZZZ closes at 6 p.m. Saturday, looking for the most "unusual title." Contestants can enter through emailing Niceswanger at the ZZZ website, messaging the photo to the ZZZ Facebook page or coming into the store on Saturday and getting a photo taken with the record. Qualifications to enter: You must live in Iowa.
But what exactly makes up the most unusual record owned by an Iowan?
"It could be a weird cover; it could be a really, really bad record," he said. "We're looking for anything like that. It could be anything."
Entries will be judged by a panel, including Niceswanger, and posted on the ZZZ website and Facebook page for viewers to vote on. The winner, who will receive a $75 ZZZ gift card, is set to be announced on Oct. 7.
Head to ZZZ Records on Saturday to catch a slew of deals in celebration of the record store's 15th year serving the music fandom of Iowa. Sales include 15 percent off everything in the store and a sidewalk sale of goods ranging from .25 cents to $1.
