When appearing from the depths of Wells Fargo Arena to deliver his headlining performance, Drake sported some familiar colors on stage: Drake University blue.

The award-winning performer took the arena stage at around 9:45 p.m., opening with “Summer Sixteen,” the 2016 track that shares a name with the tour. Fireworks blasted from the stage as the Billboard-charting star opened his set.

“Des Moines, Iowa, what … is up?” he said. “Y’all ready to have a good time tonight or what?”

During the “Summer Sixteen” tour, the Canadian superstar regularly wears a local team’s attire on stage. He showed off a Missouri T-shirt on stage in Kansas City and showed support for the Phoenix Sun during a show in Arizona.

Earlier Tuesday, Drake University students lined University Avenue in hopes that Drizzy would drop by campus before making his appearance at the downtown arena. Students have been rallying on social media, using the hashtag #BringDraketoDrake. Unfortunately for his fans, Drake’s management revealed to the University he wouldn’t be able to visit campus before his show. (Editor's note: Drizzy made it to campus, but he rolled through while most were sleeping.)
