Iowa’s summer concert lineup keeps getting better and better.

Local radio station Lazer 103.3 announced Thursday that Des Moines-born hard rock group Stone Sour plans to return home next month for a one-night only intimate show at Wooly’s in Des Moines’ East Village. The show is set to take place May 22, between the band’s scheduled appearances at leading regional rock festivals Pointfest in St. Louis and Rocklahoma in Pryor, Okla. Des Moines’ own Green Death is set to open the show.

Stone Sour, fronted by Corey Taylor of Slipknot fame, is set to release “Hydrograd,” the band’s sixth studio album, June 30 via Roadrunner Records. The band dropped two new tracks Thursday morning: the blistering “Fabuless” and melodic number “Song #3.” Both can be streamed below.

Originally formed in Des Moines in 1992 and re-incarnated by Taylor and fellow Iowan Josh Rand in 2002, Stone Sour performed once before at Wooly’s, selling out back-to-back shows at the roughly 650-person venue in 2012. Prior to that, Stone Sour headlined the now dormant Lazerfest in 2011. The Grammy Award-nominated band is known for staple hard rock tracks such as “Through Glass,” “Bother” and “Tired.”

Speaking Thursday on-air to Lazer 103.3 afternoon drive host Andy Hall, Taylor said he’s excited to bring the band back to his hometown. Taylor, a New York Times best-selling author, last performed in Des Moines with Slipknot in August 2016.

“Everybody’s been asking when Stone Sour’s coming to town … it’s gonna be massive,” Taylor said. “It’s more than likely going to sell out immediately. We’re really looking forward to it.”

Tickets to the show cost $10.33 plus fees and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday via ticketfly.com and at the Wooly’s box office. More information can be found at woolysdm.com.
