Free — the absolute best price to pay for entertainment.
For the fair-goer who blows the entire budget on the Iowa Craft Beer Tent and Bauder’s addictive peppermint ice cream bars, the Iowa State Fair announced Wednesday free entertainment set take over Des Moines’ east side this August.
Leading the four stages this year is Merle Haggard’s Strangers, 1990s rock group Saliva, up-and-coming country names Carly Pearce, Chris Lane and Brett Young, as well as classic rock acts KIX and Slaughter.
With 36 acts announced, the Iowa State Fair describes the lineup as “more than an half million dollars’ worth of free entertainment” in a news release. The full lineup can be found below.
Additional touring country acts set to appear include the Casey Donahew Band, Waterloo Revival, and Restless Heart. Rounding out the classic rock portion of this year’s free entertainment is an appearance from Steve Augeri of Journey fame, Pink Floyd tribute act Think Floyd US, and Iowa favorite Hairball.
Notable from the local acts booked is State Fair staple Bob Dorr & The Blue Band. Set to perform Aug. 19 at the MidAmerican Energy Stage, 2017 marks the Blue Band’s final year at the fair. A staple for fair-goers, the Blue Band has been appearing at the Iowa summer tradition for three decades.
The Iowa State Fair released last month the final acts to perform at the Grandstand this summer: Pop rock act Paramore and rapper Flo Rida rounded out a lineup that includes Kid Rock, For King & Country, Nickelback, John Mellencamp, Pentatonix, the I Love the ‘90s Tour, Little Big Town, and Alabama.
The Iowa State Fair is set to take place Aug. 10-20. More information on Grandstand tickets and free entertainment can be found at iowastatefair.org.
